Restaurant Review – Cracker Barrel Salisbury, North Carolina

Print Friendly

Many of you are maybe thinking to yourselves… Why would the Ogre review this place??? It is not BBQ!

Well that may be so but there are some places that are not cooking food over an open flame or smoked that is really well done and breakfast is a meal that I needed on my last day of my vacation aka my Southern Expedition.

After checking out of the Days Inn in Salisbury, North Carolina which has left me with many fine memories I wanted to have a substantial breakfast as I knew I was going to be on the road for more than 12 hours and once I started driving I did not want to stop very often.

My buddy Aaron Smith aka Hank Bob BBQ had told me the day before in Florida that if I could to try out the Cracker Barrel Restaurant. he said that even though it was a chain restaurant that they had great food and the decor in the building was very cool.

He was right!

There was a Cracker Barrel in eyesight from my hotel so at 9 am I drove over. Right away I was impressed with the look on the outside with the rocking chairs out front (that my buddies Coolio & the gang seemed to enjoy) and judging by the parking lot it was very popular that morning.

Stepping inside they have a retail store that is really well decked out in like a old general store with great souvenirs and country styled things to buy and even including a nice collection of cast iron pans that I thought were priced very well.

Here are some shots of the inside of the restaurant before i sat down.

Being a big fan of Cheerwine and having 5 cases of it in my car to bring home, I liked the sign

I was seated at a table and the gal that was my server was very polite and friendly.

I decided on the “Momma’s Pancakes for $5.99 with Golden Delicious Apples with Real Whipped Cream and an order of toast . To drink I had an OJ and a hot tea. the picture in the menu looked real good but I have seen it before where the food never looks as good as in menu pictures.

Well have a look at the picture I took of my meal….

This is my breakfast looks great eh?

I would say it looks better than the menu!

One of the cooks actually served the breakfast and he was also very friendly and it felt good to be treated as well as I was in the Cracker Barrel.

The apples and the sauce was great tasting, so much better than when I get regular Pancakes with syrup.

I took some pics of the menu and though the quality of my photos could of been better I think you can get a good idea of the foods that they have (click on any image to view it full size)

About the only thing I could be critical of would be that the butter for the toast was too hard and made spreading on the toast quite a mess, I would suggest they let the butter sit out a bit before they serve it.

I spoke to the server for a few minutes and she was interested in where I was from  (Canada) and when she heard that told me that she may end up going to school in Canada as there was a school that was trying to get her to come up there. I wish her well in her future schooling she seems like a good kid.

For $11.00 including the tip I felt the price of breakfast was well worth the money.

I enjoyed breakfast and it gave me the energy I needed to get on the road and have a good start to my day.

Looks like a great place…I have never eaten at a Cracker Barrel. We don’t have one nearby and have never stopped at one on our travels…Just might have to now!
