Today Joe and I wanted a quick lunch so we headed back to Port Perry, Ontario to the Charcoal Cookhouse on Hwy 12 north of Hwy 7A.
For those of you that had not seen it, I wrote a review on the restaurant recently and I really enjoy eating there and Helene is a joy to talk BBQ with.
Today Helene informed me that Beef is now on the menu and they recently smoked a hip of beef on the pit.
Today Joe had the Caesar Salad that had smoked bacon in it that really added a nice smokey flavour and the other ingredients were fresh.
I ordered a Peameal on a bun and this is the second time I had one here the first time was last week but I did not have my camera with me to show you the meal.
But I can tell you that the Peameal was the best I had ever tasted! It is slow smoked for 3 hours and then when ordered it is heated over a charcoal grill. The bacon is sliced thick and it melts in your mouth
This time I had my camera so here is what it looks like.
I added the mayo and some Original HP sauce to my sandwich and again it was mouth watering tender Peameal that had such great smokey flavour. I have had many Peameal on a kaisers over the years but none could ever compare to this. And it only cost me $3.99
This is on their U-Pick Lunch menu where you can mix & match any two items for $5.99 or even three for $7.99 what a fantastic deal. see below.
Here Joe was talking with owner Helene Van Bommel in one of our previous visits (It is her Boyfriend Tim Byers that builds the pits)
Here is a picture of just some of the charcoal fired grills they have out back of the restaurant.
I am already looking forward to my next visit to the Charcoal Cookhouse, maybe I will try their Breakfast, I understand they open at 5am on weekdays and 9 am on the weekends.
