BBQ Joint Review – Smokehouse Blues Belleville, Ontario Canada

Print Friendly

A while back Joe and I reviewed the Bull & Boar BBQ Smokehouse in Belleville, Ontario and in that review I mentioned that we saw another BBQ Joint just down the street from there and that we would check them out the next time we had business in Belleville, so here we are at 300 North Front Street Belleville, Ontario K8N 3C4

The first thing Joe said to me as we walked in was that “This is just like a BBQ Joint in the South” a small place that is not to fancy and not to big, just a friendly looking place to get some finger lickin’ BBQ.

After having our meal a few weeks back at the Bull & Boar we stopped into Smokehouse Blues just to look around and Joe bought a couple of jars of Cheech & Chong Hot Sauces but we saw enough that we knew we would have to come back the next time I had business in town.

Big Green Egg Smoker

Smokehouse Blues is owned by Wendy Pierson and her Husband Alex. I asked Wendy how they got into BBQ and she told me that it started at home just using a Big Green Egg similar to the one pictured to the left.

Doing their research in the area there were not many BBQ Joints in around Belleville so Wendy and Alex decided to give it a go and opened Smokehouse Blues in October of 2010.

Their menu is rather basic BBQ fare which is what most people would be looking for in Pork Ribs, Chicken and Brisket.

But They also have some cool ways of serving it, for instance You can order a Pork Parfait which is layers of Pulled Pork, Mashed Potatoes, Baked Beans and their Smokey Kansas City style BBQ Sauce along with a tiny Tomato on top rather than a cherry which would normally top an Ice Cream Sunday like the Pork Parfait is made to look similar to.

Joe was not super hungry (I told him he did not need to grab McDonald’s before we left Oshawa) but still wanted to try their BBQ so he ordered 3 of the Pork Sliders 2 with House Hot sauce and the third with the XXX Sauce and He thought they were really good and he liked the sauce (though he did not tell me how hot it was) Joe also took some of his side of Slaw and through that on top of the meat in the sliders.

Joe's Pork Sliders

Joe enjoying his Pork slider, behind him is the wall of various Sauces and Rubs they also sell

Myself I ordered a Pork Parfait and I had to try the Pork Wing which I guess is proof that pigs do fly!!!

Actually it is a Pigs Shank that is smoked and sauced like a wing would be.

My Meal; of a Pork Parfait and a Pork Wing

And yes I was feeling I should be a little healthy so I had a Fresca which I have not drank for a long long time. Now id they bring back Tab I will be surprised lol

Pork Parfait Mmmmm Good!Pork Wing

1st bite of the Pork Wing... Really tender

Both the Pork Wing and the Pork Parfait were really good. It was a great choice. on the Pork Parfait it came with the Smoky Sauce so on the Pork wing I went for the House Sauce which is a Sweet type. Very tasty.

Nice that the customer has a great selection of sauces to use

As I mentioned before Smokehouse Blues also sells a line of Hot Sauces and Rubs that they bring in, I will be sending them links to some of the other sauces that I have tried that they may want to consider carrying on the shelf too.

For a BBQ Joint that has only been open 9 months and having  some backyard experience to start from I was very Impressed by Smokehouse Blues and Wendy and her staff were very friendly and made our visit very comfortable.

If your in the Belleville area give Smokehouse Blues a try… you will not be disappointed.

I was wondering if you ever thought of getting involved with the Ribfest in Barrie? I would like to try your pork parfait – it looks great!! Barrie, Community Updates is a blog that will be highlighting the events in Barrie, Ontario. Most of our events have outdoor vendors – maybe we will see you at one!

Thanks Denise, I do not make the Pork Parfait’s that was at Smokehouse Blues that I reviewed, As far as the Barrie Ribfest goes I linked it in my 2011 Ribfest Schedule http://oshawalaser.com/Blog/2011/05/25/2011-ribfest-schedule-for-ontario-canada/ I think it was July 7th right? I may try to get up there in 2012. I was at the Blue Mountains Ribfest a couple of weeks back and drove through Barrie to get there, love that area, and I had a blast at that BBQ show and Competition.
