When I was in Florida on my Southern Expedition 2.0 I was very fortunate to meet with Jeff Schmidt In Fort Myers.
Jeff is doing something that is exciting, He has a love for great sauce both of the hot and of the BBQ variety and also has a love for helping animals. And what he has done is find a way to combine both in a business venture.
Over a nice dinner at a pub in Fort Myers Jeff explained the story to me and right away I was on board with what he was doing.
In a nutshell Jeff worked with a sauce developer to come up with some great hot sauces including a Louisiana, a Chipotle and my personal favorite Pineapple Honey Hot Sauce.
those along with his Dog-Gone BBQ Sauce make up a complete line of sauces that will tickle everyone’s fancy.
During Dinner we ordered some meats and corn chips that were un-sauced and I tried them all right there in the restaurant, how cool is that??
He also told me of his passion for helping Animal Shelters and Rescue Centers across Southwest Florida and how he uses his sauces to help them.
First of all he has found some local stores to carry the product and any proceeds that he gets from those sales has been donated to various animal shelters. but what he has also done is given cases of his sauces at no cost to some of the animal shelters and rescues and simply telling them that the sauces are a donation and they can sell them themselves with all money staying with those organizations.
On my way out of our meeting we went to Jeff’s truck and he gave me a couple of cases of sauce to review myself and also give to some of my other blogger friends to try and review.
And as you know on my way home I did stop in North Carolina and Washington where I met with friends Big Wayner, Wayne Brown and Rich Wachtel of Grilling with Rich.
Here is a newspaper article that was in the Fort Myers News-Press that can tell you more of Jeff’s Story
Now I met Jeff back on February 3rd 2012 and I am sorry it took me this long to write this review but as many of my friends know life has been very challenging since I returned home from such an exausting trip and I still have many stories to tell and I will try my best to bring as many as I can to you in the future.
I did try all of the sauces with Jeff back then and I can still fondly remember how much I enjoyed the Pineapple Honey Hot Sauce in particular, what a great mix of sweet and heat!
The Chipotle was very tasty and that flavour has really been popular the last couple of years throughout the sauce world with many restauarants jumping on the Chipotle bandwagon.
The Louisiana is the hottest of the bunch, now I am not one that needs to get the hottest hot sauce there is in order to be satisfied, infact I am more a fan of flavour rather than how bad it hurts going down my throat or making my tongue numb. Dog-Gone Sauces just taste great and will please a wide variety of people.
Now just in the last few weeks I brought home some smoked ribs that I picked up from my great friends the Horn Dawgs Smokin BBQ when they were at one of their many Ribfests that they vend at. Now I normally get ribs that are sauced with Horn Dawgs Sauce but I wanted to try some of the sauce that I had on hand at home and it was time to break out the Dog-Gone BBQ Sauce.
I brought a couple of racks over to my friends Bob & Susan’s to have dinner with them and my friend Herman.
The Dog-Gone BBQ Sauce was a hit that evening, and I did take pics of those great ribs but alas I deleted the file before uploading to my computer, Arggghh!! but I can tell you that the sauce has a sweet taste but also a nice smoky taste as well that sticks with you a while. It also gives you a hint of heat as Hot Sauce was added to the ingredient list.
I also contacted a friend of mine Ann Burns that just recently launched her new business ScanMeHome.com that sells Pet Tags with QR Codes on them. The reason for this is that I thought that her and Jeff should get in contact with one another since they both care so much for pets that have lost their way. They have spoken on the phone and I think that they will be helping each other to promote each others products in the near future.
Recently Dog-Gone Sauce has had some redesign done to their labels, the product that I have is the old art but the product is still amazing good! and they are right when they say it is “All about the Sauce” but also “All about the Cause!” (Notice that Cause and Sauce are same except that the C and S are switched?)
and make friends with Jeff on his Facebook page as well
Not to mention that you can also follow @DoggoneSauce on Twitter
Be sure to check out the Dog Gone Sauce website to learn more but in the mean time here are a couple of videos from Dog-Gone Sauce.
I am a huge supporter of both Dog-Gone Sauce and ScanMeHome.com, I applaud what Jeff and Ann are doing with each of their companies and the big winners here are the pets that will be saved from being euthanized because of their efforts.
